When Good Isn't God

Scripture:
"When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it."
—Genesis 3:6 (NIV)
Devotional Thought:
Temptation often doesn’t look dangerous—it looks desirable.
Eve didn’t choose something that looked evil. The fruit looked good, pleasing, and promising. That’s how temptation works—it appeals to our senses, our desires, and even our good intentions. But the cost of choosing our way over God’s way always leads to separation.
This verse reminds us: the enemy doesn’t just attack with fear—he lures with fantasy. He gets us to question God’s goodness and suggests that maybe we’re missing out.
But what looks good isn’t always what’s best. And wisdom without obedience is just pride dressed up pretty.
Reflection:
What are you reaching for that looks good—but isn’t from God? Ask Him to help you see clearly and choose wisely.
Prayer:
Lord, help me recognize the things that look good but lead me away from You. Give me discernment and the strength to walk in Your truth. Amen.
